My Entrepreneurship Story
It was May of 2012, and I had just made a discovery that felt completely revolutionary. In an effort to make some extra cash in preparation for my summer vacation, I was rummaging through my belongings to try to find some old video games or toys that I could sell. In this process, I looked at a large pile of old textbooks in the corner of my bedroom. Because I went to a private school, textbooks were paid for in our tuition and kept by students to collect dust once the specific classes were completed. I decided to humor myself and attempt to check if they had a value online. What I discovered was they certainly did. In fact, all my books together were worth a sum of around $400! Upon learning this, the wheels in my brain started turning in a way I had never experienced before. I quickly sold my books and had a cool 400 bucks cash in my pocket. With this cash at my disposal, I decided to grow my operation to the next level. The next day at school, I began asking peers if they had old textbooks lying around collecting dust and wasting space. Nearly all of them did. When I told them I would pay them cash for these books, they could not believe it. Quickly, $400 turned into over 40 textbooks. Seemingly even more quickly, these books turned into more cash, which, to me, just meant more buying power. Before I knew it, I was an entrepreneur. I had brought in two friends to help me find textbooks to buy. I created business cards, I was known around school as the guy who buys textbooks and I had successfully found a way to work during hours I wanted to work, rather than the mundane schedule of a full-time summer job. It was not until the end of that summer that I realized what entrepreneurship meant and how important it was to me. Recapping our summers with my classmates, which for them was seemingly full of long hours at boring jobs while mine consisted of doing what I want while making as much if not more money than them, I realized how much better entrepreneurship is than working a regular job. From this moment forward, I decided I would always be an entrepreneur. This transcends into my decision to take this course. While I have since then determined that I have a passion for law and plan on attending law school as well as practicing law, it is no secret that entrepreneurship is an element of being an attorney. Choosing to start your own practice instead of working for an already established firm is essentially making the decision to create your own business. Understanding the principles of entrepreneurship is vital to running your own business, including a law firm, which is why I have determined this class is a necessity for me. While enrolled in this class, I hope to learn innovative ways to grow businesses, be creative and manage and run a private business owned by yourself. With these skills as well as a law degree, I believe I will be just about fully prepared to embark in my journey of creating and growing a law firm.

Benjamin, that is a really cool story to share. It was very smart of you to recruit your friends to help you with this venture. You took something that was so simple and turned it into extra cash in your pocket! I am also a believer that life experiences that come from your own ideas tend to be the most rewarding in the end because the idea came from "you"!
ReplyDeleteHi Benjamin! I really enjoyed reading your entrepreneurship story. I found it really cool how you were able to make so much money off your textbooks. I found it even more fascinating how you were able to help your fellow friends out and still profit as well.I can sort of relate by re-selling my old textbooks after each semester but my profit was nowhere close to yours! Overall, I really did enjoy reading your post.
ReplyDeleteHi Benjamin,
ReplyDeleteLoved your entrepreneurship story! This is actually a problem for a lot of students after they buy textbooks. After they take the class, they just end up with this big book that they don't need anymore. And you were able to recognize this problem and do something about it, which in turn earned you money. As you have been able to recognize your passion about being an entrepreneur, I also wish to embark on my journey, as you had, soon.
